Self-serve Culture Means Less Social Relationships

Are we perpetuating a problem as a society, giving in to money saving plans and solutions?

Corporations large and small are replacing employees with self serve machines and automated systems.

We are social creatures! Is this hurting us ultimately as we approach our business?

Network Marketing is a relationship business and if you are not making relationships you are not making money.

Lidia, GREAT POST. Things have become so automated we converse with real people more and more. We will not be using the self checkouts and choosing to communicate with people. Many people may not think about it like you did, and just think they are in a hurry and use the self checkout, however you never will know who you will miss a connection with and use the time to honor people. Thank you for sharing.

LIDIA:

Such a neat idea for a Post!….This really hits home for me as Fri-Sun. nites as a Security Officer I spend 8-9 hours with the folks at a Major Box store,,,& sadly as you found out from the young man The folks in this industry ARE ‘Overworked & Underappreciated’….it use to be 20 years ago working as a ‘checker’ for a major grocery chain was considered a ‘plum’ position & career ,,But No longer,,,most are paid barely above minimum wage & given just under FT hours(tho I am not a Diehard Union fan The Grocers Union was ripped a part about 10 years ago…It is Now a joke in what it does for employees…I mean if you can work 1040 hours—which takes forever you get a measly .20 raise an hour…not even enuff for a cup of Joe!!) so the companies do not need to pay them benefits. Seems the Chain I work in is always pointing out what folks Do Wrong & you never hear about a person doing Right,,,How sad, yet the silver lining is I have been slowly able to influence a few folks there that there are better ways,,,& yes Many are being repalced by automation…I am with you I LOVE customer Contact !

Great Post Lidia!

Lidia this is so true…i recall when I was out on maternity leave and was so ready to go back because I missed the interaction with people. I train clients locally so I still get the face to face interaction which I LOVE. I really never thought about it while going shopping but you make a good point.

I find that self service does not always mean easy to do, quicker time or better service. Even if I have one item I stand in line beacuse I like to smile at people and see if I can be a light in someones life as they mumble around there carts.

Good stuff Lidia!

Your blog looks amazing. Very organized and easy to navigate. I hate all the bling and flash on most blogs. What a great message. Connecting with people is the only way to get anywhere! Whether it is for personal growth or for your business. Very good message. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you Lidia! I have done business with the same grocery for years and have gotten to know a lot of the people there. I will not go through the self-serve checkouts because I love talking with them. After many years, we have become friends. Love your message!

Lidia,
I am so guilty of using self-checkout to save time even though it disturbs me due to the loss of jobs as well as the loss of social interaction. This is a great post really got me thinking. I do like the social interaction I will make a point of the checkout lines more often.

Thanks
Laura

You make a good point in this post Lidia. I prefer to not use the self checkouts. I like to be social as well. Sometimes you find out that what you are buying is on sale. Going through the self checkouts doesn’t give you that privilege.

Just like the other day I was Walmart and the person at the register told me of a great deal if I signed up for their Mastercard which I was planning on doing anyway. The deal she told me about made me make my decision that day instead of down the road.
